Friends of the Library provides the library with full programs from yoga, cooking, children's activities, senior activities including concerts, classes all day long. Each library is like a civic center. It is a 501-3C not for profit and its mission is to raise funds for the library. Funds from the county are being cut back so fundraising is even more important. Over the year The Friends of the library holds book sales, hosts a bookstore, bake sale, car show and dinner dance to raise funds. Did you know that 20,000 citizens per month pass through the doors of the library and 6,000 children over the summer? The new Nexus Center in Bunnell will soon house another library and all of the same programming must now be made available for it. Www.FlaglerLibrary.org is the website to donate to Friends of the Library, in any amount. Full video of this episode is available on YouTube at: https://youtu.be/VaWLBimUrAo

Discussion of The Johnson Amendment a provision in the U.S. tax code, since 1954, that prohibits all 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations from endorsing or opposing political candidates and the order to the IRS to stop enforcing it. Separation of Church and State. Influence that can be bought. Can religious leaders change on a dime to supplient themselves to this new decree? Does it only take a small group of dedicated people as Margaret Mead said "Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it's the only thing that ever has." What happens when politicians go against the teachings of their own faith, can the community of any faith influence the bad behaviour of individuals that reflect badly on their faith? Vouchers for schools being fraudulently misused and taking away benefits from public school education and losing public schools as a result. Perceived value of charter schools vs public school education and the lack of accreditation needed to teach at a charter school vs the extensive array of testing required to teach at a public school.
